Cartoon Nostalgia

Not too long ago I found some old cartoons about a mole named krtek from czech illustrator Zdenek Miler that was posted on Grain Edit’s twitter feed.

First I completely loved the illustration style, and two the fact that it achieved all the interest and emotional content without a single word. Miler created a cartoon that could be universally understood and enjoyed by any child. Unfortunately, you probably have never seen his work much outside of Europe. So of course after finding out about Miler I started looking around for some of the old cartoons that I remembered watching, even though they all aired  long before I was born here’s a few that I always found particularly fascinating including Tex Avery’s series of future commodities and of course we can’t mention nostalgia inducing cartoons without some disney either, everyone has seen the classic disney films so I chose some of the mars and beyond animations which were particularly interesting. Also it’s pretty interesting to think that although these were all created within a 10 year span the content, stylistic, and technological differences between them and how they related to their audiences.

From Zdenek Miler:

Krtek and the car

From Tex Avery:

The car of tomorrow

The house of tomorrow

From Disney:

Mars and Beyond: 1 of 6 Man and the Sky

Mars and Beyond: 3 of 6 History of Life on Earth

Mars and Beyond: 5 of 6 Life on Mars
